Writing Based on Medieval History (Grades 5–8)

Description: Using Medieval History as the theme, students will continue to develop skills learned in the 3–5 grade classes and begin research reports and writing from a prompt. We will use FIX IT to review grammar rules, and vocabulary will be extended. ***This class is on a three-year rotation with Writing: Based on Narnia—The Lion’s Song and Writing: Based on Modern World History.

Description: Using the first three novels of The Chronicles of Narnia (The Magician’s Nephew, The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, and The Horse and His Boy) as the theme, students will continue to develop skills learned in the 3–5 grade classes and also begin research reports and writing from a prompt. Assignments will beckon students to experience the enchanted land of Narnia through their writing lessons. ***This class is on a three-year rotation with Writing: Based on Modern World History and Writing: Based on Medieval History.

Description: Using Modern World History as the theme, students will learn how to create and write from outlines while adding style techniques to express their ideas creatively. Writing assignments will include paragraphs, short reports, research reports, stories, writing from pictures, and writing from a prompt. Literature will enhance our study of writing and challenge the students to read Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry, Carry on Mr. Bowditch, and Number the Stars. They will be required to read each book and examine the content in light of Scripture. ***This class is on a three-year rotation with Writing: Based on Narnia—The Lion’s Song and Writing: Based on Medieval History.
