U.S. History Grades 3-5

Michigan History and Its People

Thursday 12:45–1:40 Wait List
Friday 1:45–2:40

Teacher: Stephanie Green

Description: This class takes students on a journey of learning all the way from the first inhabitants of our state to Michigan today in the 21st century. It is a class that will give your child in depth insight into our state. Many adults are not fully aware of all that their child will learn and discover throughout the year. “Why is Detroit named Detroit? What were the original Native American tribes of our state? Who explored our state and why? What counties, cities, and rivers have Native American names? How was the Mackinac bridge built? How do the Soo Locks work?” These and so many more fun things are part of our learning! Michigan history truly comes alive for the children in this class. Class has minimal homework, approximately 30 minutes per week. ***This class is on a three–year rotation with Traveling Through U.S. States History 1 (2027–2028) and II (2028–2029).

Supplies: 2–3 inch 3-ring binder, 50-page protectors, (Cheap ones are fine, and no tabs are needed), colored pencils, internet access at home (A printer will be helpful but not required). There is a $5 copy fee included in the cost of this class.

Traveling Through United States History 2, from the mid-1800s–1960s Not Offered This Year

Teacher: Stephanie Green

Description: The idea of this class (and all three history classes in rotation for grades 3–5) is for students to have a solid overview of American history before they enter middle school. We will not go in depth on any topic, but instead learn about one event or person each week as we build a timeline from the time of the Industrial Revolution to the landing of men on the moon. Your child will gain a solid understanding of the events that took place and the people that influenced our country during this period. There will be little homework as we will learn about our topic in class and then have a hands-on activity to help solidify understanding and retention. A syllabus with all topics will be sent home at the beginning of the year, so that parents can add further learning at home as desired on each topic as it is taught. There is a $5 copy fee for this class.

***This class is on a three-year rotation with Michigan History (2026–2027) and Traveling Through U.S. States History 1 (2027–2028).
