U.S. History Grades 3-5

Traveling Through United States History 1, from 1700s–mid-1800s

Thursday 12:45–1:40
Friday 12:45–1:40

Teacher: Stephanie Green

Description: The idea of this class (and all three history classes in rotation for 3–5 graders) is for students to have a solid overview of American history before they enter middle school. We will not go in depth on any topic but instead learn about one event or person each week as we build a timeline from the time of the colonists to the events of the Civil War and Westward Expansion. Your child will gain a solid understanding of the events that took place and the people that influenced our country during this time. There will be little homework as we will learn about our topic in class and then have a hands-on activity to help solidify understanding and retention. A syllabus with all topics will be sent home at the beginning of the year, so that parents can add further learning at home as desired on each topic as it is taught. ***This class is on a three–year rotation. There is a $5 material fee included in the cost of this course.

Michigan History and Its People —Not offered 2025–25

Teacher: Stephanie Green

Description: This class takes students on a journey of learning all the way from the first inhabitants of Michigan through to life in our state in the 21st century. We will use physical Michigan maps during every class and students will learn how to use a map index and locate places using the map grid. They will become very familiar with the location of all of the Great Lakes, Upper and Lower Peninsulas, major cities, and landmarks. Each week will be an exciting adventure of learning: Who were the American tribes of our state? Who explored our state and why? What counties, cities, and rivers have Native American names? What are Michigan’s natural resources? How was the Mackinac Bridge built? How do the Soo Locks work?” These and so many more fun things will be part of our learning! Michigan truly comes alive for the children in this class. There is a $5 copy fee included in the cost of this class. ***This class is on a three-year rotation with Traveling Through U.S. States History 1 and 2.
